Artist's Comments

Those who don't watch me on Facebook miss a lot of my Graffiti (and since my computer is -still- dead, it's pretty much the only thing I use digitaldrawingwise), so here's a graffiti. Happy Leiderhosen day.

2-3 hours? idk. Her torso bothers me.

I cannot believe how good you are at facebook graffiti. It's CRAZY. >: U the colours and details on this are wonderful - some more definition on the merperson, especially around the face and torso, would have been nice...but hey, it's facebook art, it's not exactly the most high tech program...you do really great given the limited pallete and tools : D

It's the only digital art whatsit I have right now, so... yeah P: I'm getting a bit of experience working with it. Thankies <3

Speaking of digital art whatsits, I'm thinking of buying Corel Painter. Is it worth $400?

lol. The facebook graffiti plague... I used to do loads of it but unfortunately they were all inside jokes and badly drawn ones at that XD
You should join an oekaki board if youre willing to spend 2-3 hours on a tiny FB graffiti! O_o damn.

Corel Painter is AMAAAZZIINNGGG. Its beautiful and it gives you great effects. BUT, and its a big but(t), even though it simulates real art mediums, its definitely not the same. You still have to basically learn another medium and how to use it. I mean, it is really fun and great, but it will only give you good results if you use it properly.
If you already have Photoshop (which I assume you do) I would suggest rather learning how to use their brushes to their full potential and how to customise them. I dont know if other versions have it (I have CS2, so just check) but recently I discovered some of Photoshops default brushes. They have chalk and oil and watercolour. The one that I use now to paint pretty much everything is the Oil Medium Wet Flow brush, with the opacity jitter set to Pen Pressure, and the Shape dynamics turned off. It gives great brush strokes and texture, but not too much. The oil brush in Painter is (in my opinion) pretty horrifying.

So in short, its worth it, but dont expect it to be easier. Ive seen people to amazing work just with a Hard Round brush in Photoshop. So rather experiment there a bit more :)

I TALK TO MUCH BLAARGGH!

I did a bit of Oekaki when I was younger, but I never got used to the tools (strange, seeing as I've managed to make do with the one tool in Graffiti). I want to try more with TegakiE, that's a fun site :3

Yeeahhh... I have Photoshop 7, so the brush presets aren't all that advanced x) I'm hoping to get one of the student-discount Creative Suite CS4 packages for my birthday, though, which would probably fix that problem. Thanks for the advice! I'll mess around with brush presets before I think about getting Painter :)

(I talk a lot too, btw.)

ohhh I started a TegakiE account a while ago, but I never really got into it much... But I did like the idea of only being able to reply with drawings a lot! That was really cool. But on a long term art basis I didnt understand the sense of working so much on a picture in something not much more than MSPaint, when I had photoshop. XP

ooohh that would be awesome. Im also trying to get CS4, it sounds pretty awesome. Good luck with that!

Yeah, I understand the issue with limited tools, but I think it makes for an interesting challenge :) Now that I've worked with Graffiti a lot, I might go back to TegakiE and see if I can transfer that style over.

Thanks! Good luck to you too.
